Hidden Touches That Separate G.H.BASS Loafers from the Rest
In the world of fashion, it’s easy to become absorbed in bold patterns and colours, but often, the pieces with finer details are what leave the lasting impression.
You see, while many people fall into the trap of consuming fleeting trends or copying celebrity looks, personal style requires a more strategic approach. It requires intentional choices that create the final, polished look - a concept that our brand has mastered thus far.
Curious for the inside scoop? Explore how G.H.BASS captures the beauty of detail in every design up close.
Handcrafted Artistry
The artistry that goes into creating our iconic leather loafers is truly a mesmerising process, which we cannot help but shine a light on. In fact, it is this exact quality and craftsmanship that has remained the core of our brand since George Henry Bass founded it.
- The Leather We Use
There’s nothing more iconic than a pair of leather loafers. It holds this sense of sophistication that no other fabric can quite measure up to.
Apart from aesthetics, leather is celebrated for its durability and mobility. Many individuals enjoy how this fabric ages with time, and moulds to their feet the more they are worn.
When creating our leather loafers, we prioritise supple leather hides, as these offer the most comfort and work well with our hand-stitching processes. We begin by measuring and cutting out the outsole patterns. The sole is branded with our Weejuns logo, and the leather is checked and approved. Following this step, we move on to cutting out the rest of the shoe’s pattern, which consists of four separate parts. We form the footbed by placing a strip of leather on top of a foam footbed for cushion. The footbed is then branded with our stunning gold foil-embossed logo.
We are then ready for the next step: hand-stitching.
- The Intricate Hand-stitching
Good-grade leather lends itself well to hand stitching, an important quality for us when creating some of our signature stitches.
Machines are used for the tougher stitching sections that require less detail, such as the counter and the collar. The hand-stitching is reserved for our signature penny ‘beefroll’ stitch. This is created using two needles, and the results include an iconic, crimped appearance on the edge of the vamp that strongly resembles its namesake.
With the stitching out of the way, it’s time to finish up the loafers for the market.
- The Upper Finishing
We conclude the crafting process by removing the last, so that the leather uppers can be finished and polished.
For our unique colourways, such as wine or whiskey, we take them through an antiquing process to achieve that nostalgic look that you know and love. Thereafter, they are finished, polished, and ready for the shelves.
Details That Add Character
While we highlighted the unique process of our classic leather loafers, there are many designs that include some unique details that truly add some character.
- Tassels Finish
For those who give off a sense of warmth and whimsy, our Weejuns Larkin beautifully fit the description. From the suede finish to the decorative tassels, this loafer adds a bit of softness to your look.

- Ornamental Finish
If you love to accessorise, then our Weejuns Ornament is the perfect loafer for you. The subtle yet powerful metallic detail, against the shiny black finish, creates an elevated, sophisticated look.

- The Chunky Finish
If your style leans toward trendy, then the Weejun Step Venetian belongs in your closet. Featuring a thicker sole, which creates that iconic chunky look and feel, this loafer is available in two colourways, though we believe a trendsetter deserves the stunning wine leather colourway.
